Via Rossini, Torino – Private house
Client: Private
Description: Complete restructuring of a housing unit, fifth floor plus attic.
Creation of a duplex-type flat. The project stemmed from the need to redefine the minimum habitability requisites for a housing unit lacking space. The internal slab was completely demolished and reconstructed to redefine space usability.
Through construction of a central services block – bathrooms, kitchen, stairs – which characterizes the space and defines its limits, a double-height pass-through kitchen was created as well as two spacious areas for use as living room and study that are not tied to system requirements and so provide flexible use and interchangeable functions.
The harmony of the whole derives from the use of materials with strong character combined according to criteria of functionality, appearance and use: resins for bathrooms and kitchen, exposed iron for stairs and structural elements, wood for the flooring in the day and night zones, glass for the staircase landing accessing the attic, lacquered mdf facing for the vertical walls of the entire services block. The original wooden rafters were retained, creating an interesting contrast with the contemporary look of the new design.
